A celebrant is someone who performs and officiates ceremonies and important life events. They can be involved in a wide range of ceremonies and events, including weddings (most common), baby naming ceremonies, elopements, renewal of vows and funerals. A celebrant is authorised by the Attorney General’s office and is there to assist in the process of creating a ceremony that is perfect for you. They also ensure that all the legal paperwork is taken care of.

Finding the right celebrant is a big decision, after all their job is super important and so you absolutely want the right fit. Before you make the decision, do your research and ask for recommendation from friends / family. Once you have a celebrant in mind, check out their website / social media accounts and get to know them, over a phone call or even better a coffee catch-up. At the end of the day, it’s a very personal decision and ultimately you should choose someone you gel with and who fits easily with you and your partner.

Every celebrant will charge differently and there is no set price across the industry. Celebrants charge differently based on many factors, including location, personal preference and most commonly also experience. My advice is don’t choose a celebrant purely based on cost, as you may do yourself a disservice. If you choose the right celebrant for you (even if they may be slightly more expensive than the next) it will ultimately be worth every extra cent! 

In order to fill out the legal paperwork required, you will need a passport or your original birth certificate, together with your driver’s license. Also, if you have been married before, I will also need to see your divorce papers or the death certificate of your previous spouse. I provide plenty of support in the lead up to your ceremony.

Firstly, I do a catch-up coffee or wine with you and your partner. This will give us both an opportunity to get to know each other and will allow me to better know your story, and specifically, what you want your ceremony to look like. I will talk you through what paperwork is required and give you both a questionnaire to fill out after the meeting (this helps to give me lots of fun and interesting information to include in your ceremony).

From that point forward, I offer unlimited contact via skype, email or phone, for any questions or advice. Then we have a pre-wedding rehearsal (if required) a few days before the wedding. And then before you know it, your wedding day has arrived!
